midiglock
Jared Arave & Whitney Menzel
Constructed largely from re purposed materials, midiglock takes standard MIDI input to actuate a set of retrofitted Deagan bells circa 1908. It accepts both note and velocity data over midi, and can fully actuate each solenoid several hundred times a second. In addition, every note can be triggered simultaneously, allowing for the arrangement and execution of new musical content not obtainable by traditional performance. Conlon Nancarrow would be proud.
Ultimately, this will all be paired with custom algorithmic composition software as input, and used as an installation piece.
